Carly was asking to see Rosanna at the casino. Rosanna saw her and went over to see what she wanted. She saw that Carly was pregnant and said that she was not surprised that Carly had fulfilled that part of the deal. She wanted Carly to go away, and Carly wanted to talk to Rosanna. Carly picked up the dice and challenged Rosanna to a roll of the dice. If Carly won, Rosanna had to talk to her.

Rosanna rolled and got 10, Carly rolled and got 7. Carly won. Rosanna went back to the table to gamble. Carly asked Rosanna if those were $1,000 chips and Rosanna told her they were $10,000 chips. That bugged Carly. Carly asked Rosanna if she knew what some people could do with the money she was gambling away. Rosanna asked Carly to get to the point of her visit.

Carly told Rosanna that she'd lost her design business, and her father had died. Rosanna had little sympathy. She wanted to know what exactly Carly was there for. Carly asked Rosanna to be her baby's godmother. Rosanna asked everyone to leave; she would see them the following day. Carly and Rosanna had a long talk about their past, Mike, and Nora. Carly told Rosanna that she did not hold it against Rosanna about her losing Nora.

Carly asked about Rosanna's new love, Arthur. Rosanna said that he was nice and kind. Carly saw that she was still in love with Mike. Carly told Rosanna that she had not seen Mike since she'd left Oakdale. Then, after all the reminiscing, Carly got down to the real reason that she was visiting Rosanna. She wanted Rosanna to give her the money, no matter what happened with her marriage.

Molly was following Emily around, begging her for some more airtime at WOAK. Kim overheard her and said that Molly could work on a story about unemployment, and she should start researching right away. Kim looked at Emily and said that she wanted to talk to her alone. Molly left. Kim jumped on Emily for hiring Molly in the first place. She told Emily that she had been put in charge of the news to make it better. Emily mentioned hiring Tom. Kim asked her how she could compare the two.

Emily said that she and Kim were having trouble communicating, and maybe they should go to lunch and discuss it. Kim replied that she would not play girlfriends over lunch. Kim left, and Molly returned, still pestering Emily to put her on the air. The girl wouldn't take no for an answer. Margo arrived looking for a book that Casey had left. Emily got it for her and wanted her to leave. She was afraid that Molly would say something to Margo about her and Tom.

Molly asked Margo to wait; she had something she wanted to say to Margo about her husband. Emily rushed Molly out by telling her she had to get to wardrobe if she was going to be on air later. Molly left, a very happy camper. Margo couldn't believe that Emily was going to put Molly on the air after the fiasco she'd made the last time.

Later, Emily was alone in the newsroom, and Molly returned. She wanted to know if Emily was dreaming about Tom. Kim returned and said she couldn't believe that Emily was still going to put Molly on air after the talk they'd had earlier. Kim informed Emily that all the anchors had said that if Molly were on air, they would not be, and she left.

Molly told Emily to put her on as an anchor. Emily got a sly look and told Molly not to worry. She would not be alone on the air that night. Molly asked if Emily was going to get Tom to be an anchor with her. Emily said yes. Molly was very excited and said that afterwards, they could all go out and celebrate. Emily said that Molly could celebrate by herself. Molly got the clue and said that Emily and Tom could be together and have another one-night stand.

Holden was in the woods, searching for Lily. Jack, Julia, and Lucinda found him and told him that they were going to help search, also. Somebody called Holden on his cell phone and told him that Lily had been found and was being taken to a hospital close by. Holden left to go to her. At the hospital, they all found out that a poisonous spider had bitten Lily, and she was really out of it. She needed a lot of rest.

James walked in, and Holden went after him. Jack got between them, and at the same time, James was trying to tell Holden that he was the one that had found Lily and taken her to the hospital. Holden went into Lily's room; her fever had broken, and she saw him. She asked him about David. Holden told her not to worry about David, but she wanted to know what had happened to David. James walked into Lily's room.

Bob arrived to visit Tom. Tom was not himself, and Bob could see it. He wanted Tom to tell him what was bothering him. Tom told Bob that he had cheated on Margo with Emily, and Bob said that he'd suspected it. Tom didn't know if he should tell Margo about the affair, and if he did tell her, he didn't know if their marriage would survive.

Bob reminded Tom that he had confessed to Kim when he had strayed. Tom asked him if he had it to do over again whether he would tell, and Bob said, "Yes." Tom said that he'd known Bob would say that. Bob tried to blame it on Emily, because of her reputation, and Tom wouldn't let him do that. Tom insisted that he and he alone had made the decision to sleep with Emily. Margo walked in and wondered if she was interrupting something.

Rosanna wrote out a 50 million dollar check and waved it in front of Carly. Carly wanted to know what Rosanna was doing. Rosanna asked Carly if she'd thought it would be that easy to get the money. Right in front of Carly's face, Rosanna ripped up the check. Carly yelled, "Don't!" Rosanna told her that she could go.

Carly said that Rosanna had never intended to give Carly the money; she had just wanted to see Carly beg. Rosanna told her that the deal stood -- she had to have the baby before the end of the year and be married to the father of the baby to get the money. Rosanna asked if Carly remembered her father's funeral and how comforting Carly had been to her in her time of grief. She said that then Carly had gone and slept with Mike. Rosanna said that she knew that Carly was only ever after her money. Carly said that was not true.

Rosanna said that if that were not true then Carly would have told Rosanna to take her money and shove it. Rosanna told Carly that she hoped Hal sued Carly for custody of the baby. Carly yelled at Rosanna and told her that Mike had always wanted Carly more, and he would never admit it. She told Rosanna that she'd never taken anything away from Rosanna -- Rosanna had taken from her, and she owed it to Carly to give her the money. Rosanna said that Carly was going to call Hal and tell him that she would do anything that he needed for him to get custody of the baby.

Carly grabbed Rosanna by the throat and shoved her up against the wall. Rosanna said to go ahead and try to kill her; she was not going to fight with Carly while she was pregnant. Carly let go of her then started screaming that Rosanna was a spoiled brat and always had everything, and Carly had nothing, and Rosanna wanted to take her baby, too.

The door opened, and two big guys entered and took hold of Carly. After they got her calmed down, Rosanna walked in with two policemen and told them that Carly was the one who had attacked her. Carly wanted to know what Rosanna was up to. Rosanna said that the policemen were there to escort Carly to a mental hospital so that she could get some rest. As they were taking her out, Carly was yelling that she was not crazy and that Rosanna was going to pay for that.

Margo walked in when Bob and Tom were discussing Tom's affair. She thought that she had interrupted something, and she started to head upstairs. Tom asked her to wait; he had something that he would like to discuss with her. Bob left. Margo wanted to know what was bothering Tom. He hugged Margo and told her that he loved her very much. He started to talk about their marriage and everything that they had been going through and said that he wanted everything to be back on track. She said that she wanted that, too.

Tom was just about ready to tell Margo what he had done, and the phone rang. Margo answered the phone, and it was Warren from the station. Tom told Margo that he didn't want to talk to him right then. Margo told Warren that Tom couldn't get to the phone and would call him later.

Warren hung up and told Emily that Tom wouldn't go to the phone, and he was going to call another anchor. She said no; she wanted Tom. Warren said that he would go over to Tom's house and talk to him. Tom started to tell Margo again. He told Margo that he had acted badly. Margo wanted to know what naughty thing he had done. The doorbell rang. It was Warren from the station, and he wanted Tom to be on the 10:00 p.m. news. Tom said that he couldn't do it that night. Warren said that they really needed him; all the other anchors had walked out on them.

Tom was still declining, and Margo pulled Tom aside and told him that she thought he should do it. Tom said okay and left with Warren. At the station, Emily met Tom and thanked him for going in on such a short notice. Molly walked up, and Tom realized that he would be on-camera with Molly. He said that he wouldn't do it. Emily begged him. She had a suit on the way for him. The suit arrived, and Tom left to get dressed.

Emily told Molly that all she had to do was read the copy -- that was it. Emily warned her that she'd better not make a fool of Emily in front of Kim. Molly said that she had it under control, and Emily should trust her. Molly and Tom took their places behind the anchor desk, and they started the show. Molly was reading the story about Lily and how she had been found but was in the hospital from exhaustion and a spider bite. Then she got emotional when there was no mention of David.

Tom pulled it back together and started on the national news. Emily was glaring at Molly and smiling sweetly at Tom. At the end of the newscast, Molly tried to apologize for her outburst at the beginning of the news. Emily was giving Tom the wrap-up sign. Tom interrupted Molly and said goodnight, and they were off the air. Emily told everyone to go home and finish up in the morning. She told Molly that she was finished. She'd had one chance, and she'd blown it.

Emily asked Tom if he would like to see the tape, and he said that he had to get home. Emily told him that she had ordered him a car, and it was going to be a few minutes. Tom said okay, and they went into the control booth. They were watching the tape, and Emily was giving Tom all kinds of compliments. Emily secretly turned on the microphone to the studio. She asked if there had been any problems with Margo that night.

Molly walked into the studio and heard Emily talking to Tom. Emily stood up and moved close to Tom. Tom held her back. Adam had talked Margo into going to the studio and meeting Tom, and she was walking down the hallway to the studio. Tom told Emily that it was not going to happen again. He started to explain to her that they couldn't be together again, and Molly knocked on the door.

Emily went to the door and said that she'd told Molly to go home. Tom said, "I'm out of here. Goodnight." Molly said goodnight back. Emily started to yell at Molly for interrupting her and Tom. Molly said that she'd thought Emily would be interested to know that the microphone to the studio was on. Emily went and turned it off. She saw Tom and Margo on the monitor, hugging.

Lily's fever had broken, and she was asking Holden about David. James was listening at the door. Holden told her not to worry about David. She said that she was worried that David would be back after the baby. Holden told Lily that David had taken the money and left the country. He said that David would never be back. When James heard that, he walked away from the door with his head hanging.

Lucinda and Julia walked in. Lucinda wanted to know how James was doing. Holden went out to talk to Lily's doctor. Holden wanted to take Lily home. The doctor said that they had gotten some more test results back, and Lily's condition was not as good as they'd thought at first. She was not responding to the antibiotics, and the infection was getting worse in her system. They couldn't take the baby to see Lily because the baby could pick up the infection from her mother.

Holden went back to Lily to tell her the bad news. Lily was bummed, but she understood. She just wanted to make sure that the baby was safe from David. Holden promised her that she was. They decided the baby needed a name. They decided to name her Hope. Holden left Lily to rest.

Lily fell asleep and started to dream about Hope. In the dream, Hope was crying, and Lily couldn't find her. David appeared and said to Lily that she would never see her baby again. Lily woke from the dream, but she was hysterical from her fever. She left her room to find Hope.

Holden walked in and saw that Lily was gone. He ran out to find her. He found her in one of the hallways. She was calling for Hope and saying that David had her. Holden managed to get Lily back to her bed and calmed down. He told her that he had to tell her something about David, and he hoped that she understood and forgave him. "Lily," he said, "David is dead."

Wednesday, October 7, 1998

Eddie and Brad dined together at Yo's. Brad recalled spending his entire first paycheck, trying to pick up women. Eddie didn't think that his dream woman would show up at a bar. Andy and Katie then showed up at Yo's. Carly's demands to be released were met by Rosanna and a psychiatrist -- she just needed to be sure Carly wouldn't hurt her baby, Rosanna explained.

Lucinda was nonplussed by James's marriage proposal. Holden tried to calm down a frantic Lily and finally told her she needn't worry -- he had killed David. Lily was relieved to hear that David was out of their lives permanently but urged Holden not to shut her out.

Rosanna informed her sister that she'd had her put in the mental ward because Carly had been choking her. She sought to repair the damage by calling Hal for Carly, but Carly was adamant in her refusal. James asserted that he'd been planning to ask Lucinda for some time, though not under such circumstances. Though she couldn't decide if he was kidding himself or not, Lucinda was sure of one thing -- she didn't buy it. John assured Julia that baby Hope was improving.

Julia cooed at the baby and told her she had been worth it -- all of it -- as she recalled watching Holden bury David. Lily was understanding when Holden recounted how the gun had gone off in his struggle with David. She told him he had done the right thing. She comforted him as he wiped back tears. Molly and her cameraman walked up to Brad and Eddie. Eddie was leery of her, but she promised that she just wanted to do a piece about romance, her forte. Molly cajoled Brad into going on-camera to talk about his dream girl. He quickly turned around when he saw Camille enter.

Carly told Rosanna that if Hal knew anything about her trip, it would ruin any chance of them reconciling. Rosanna told Carly that she figured Carly had gotten pregnant twice -- once for Rosanna's man and once for her money. Carly bitterly reminded Rosanna that she'd lost Nora because of Rosanna. The baby was all she had, Carly asserted. Camille and Brad fondly recalled their first meeting on the side of the road. Camille passed off her worry as being related to her search for the right wedding gown.

Eddie went outside to play basketball, just as Katie emerged from the ladies' room. Andy nixed Molly's plea to talk on-camera, but Katie allowed her to record her talking about her fantasy -- staying in one place. Molly was momentarily let down when Katie said that she went down to the river to think about her dream guy -- her father.

Lily swore to Holden that it would be their secret. Jack affirmed to Julia that he would never close the case -- not until he found David. Carly called Jack, begging him not to hang up. Jack was incredulous when he learned Carly was in a psychiatric ward in Reno. He couldn't go there, he said, and he advised her to calm down for the sake of the baby. Carly described Jack to Rosanna as "one of the most important people in my life." Jack advised John about Carly. Julia gave Jack the go-ahead to go help Carly if he needed to -- she was beyond petty stuff.

Holden insisted to Lily that they couldn't tell Jack. Lily was equally insistent that they needed to call Julia. Julia relayed to Holden the fact that Jack was obsessed with finding David. A grateful Lily told Julia that she could never repay her for all that she'd done. For her part, Julia wasn't at all sure how much longer she could keep David's death a secret, especially since Lily knew.

James admitted to being lonely and wanting some stability. Lucinda wondered aloud what she would get out of their marriage -- she could only see the negatives in it. "I love you," he told her, and she whirled around.

Katie confessed to Andy that she might have revealed too much in Molly's interview of her. Eddie rushed back inside when Molly mentioned there being a cute blonde, but by the time he got there, Andy and Katie were gone. Camille was cheered by watching a funny movie with Brad and blithely told him about her clump of hair. He cheered her through laughter.

James urged Lucinda not to make a hasty decision. When he left, she mused over the name, "Mrs. James Stenbeck." Camille was earnest when she revealed to Brad that he was the best friend she'd ever have. He, too, had been changed when he'd met her, he admitted.

Holden and Lily cuddled on her hospital bed. Lily fell asleep as she promised to get stronger for him and their child. Carly was awakened by news that she had a "gentleman" visitor. Having just dreamed of Jack, she rushed to look presentable, but it was John who walked in.

Thursday, October 8, 1998

Lucinda tried to calm Lily when she suffered a nightmare about James taking Hope in exchange for David. When Lily awakened, she was shocked to learn that the bouquet of flowers in her room was from James and even more shocked when James paid her a hospital visit. Lucinda assured Lily that James meant well, but Lily warned her mother that James was not trustworthy. When Lily was taken for tests, James reappeared and presented Lucinda with an engagement ring.

Margo sought advice from Lila and Andy about letting Katie hear the recording Casey had made for his daughter before Margo had pulled the plug on his life support system. Katie was anxious to hear the tape and was overwhelmed with bittersweet joy by the voice of her father. Margo quickly stopped the tape before Katie could hear the part where Casey begged Margo to pull the plug. She told Katie that there was more about her father's death that she needed to know but that they should wait a little longer before they talked further.

Georgia was thrilled to be back "at home" with Eddie at his apartment. Eddie assured Georgia that he was making good money and could take care of her. Eddie was surprised by a knock at the door and the delivery of various household items from the local department store. Georgia told him that "Auntie Lu" had given her some money, and she just wanted to give something back to him for being there for her when she'd needed it. When Eddie claimed that he was over Margo, Georgia assumed it was because Eddie was falling in love with her.

John wanted to know what Carly had done to get herself in such a mess "this time." As Carly began to explain the events, Rosanna arrived. As the two sisters faced off, John intervened, pointing out to Rosanna that she'd started the whole thing by dangling the money in front of Carly. He told her she should just drop the entire scheme for the sake of the baby. However, Rosanna confessed that the trust was irrevocable -- as long as Carly met the terms, Rosanna had to pay her.

John told Carly that the only way he would help her return to Oakdale would be if she agreed to be released into his custody. Later, they arrived back at John's suite. As John was explaining the living arrangements, he was called away on a hospital emergency. Carly promptly exclaimed, "I will be no one's prisoner," and left. Meanwhile, Rosanna booked a flight back to Oakdale.

Kim was outraged to learn that Emily still intended to allow Molly back on the air. Tom was also upset and took a moment to privately spell things out for Molly. Later, after overhearing Tom and Margo make a romantic date, Emily realized that firing Molly would further her plan to break up Tom and Margo. She asked Kim to give Molly her walking papers.

Friday, October 9

Lily was wheeled in as James was putting the ring on Lucinda's finger. An irate Lily informed Holden about the proposal. Lisa delivered the catered meal to Tom personally on the rooftop. She wondered why her son was going to so much trouble, and he admitted to feeling guilty. Katie delivered the flowers to Margo with the note about a change in plans, and Margo wondered why Tom wanted to meet her at the studio.

Emily observed Kim tell Molly she was fired, and then, posing as Tom's secretary, Emily called the florist to make sure that the flowers were delivered. Molly demanded that Emily get her un-fired. Emily claimed that as minority owner, her hands were tied. Eddie ran into Molly and begged to talk with her.

Lisa blamed Emily for Tom's behavior toward Margo -- she'd tried to get Tom to stray but had never succeeded, Lisa trumpeted. Margo was giddy as she got ready for her date with Tom. Katie marveled that after so many years, thinking about Tom still made Margo blush. Katie herself was leery of getting involved with anyone. Meanwhile, Eddie asked Molly for the name of the blonde she'd interviewed at Yo's. Molly wondered why he was so interested. Emily was disturbed when she saw Eddie talking to Molly.

Lucinda claimed to be merely trying the ring on, though later she couldn't remove it. An agitated Lily yelled at her mother and at James and then collapsed in Holden's arms. Kim happened upon Georgia and chastised her for trying to lift a heavy object. Georgia was in the midst of fixing an entire meal for Eddie. Kim insisted on helping and invited her to dine with her and Bob that weekend -- their son Christopher was returning home from Columbia University. Georgia demurred, saying that she already had a boyfriend -- Eddie.

Molly refused to tell Eddie anything, citing her worry that he could stalk the girl. Eddie and Emily traded jabs then he pretended to leave. Emily was agitated when she couldn't find Molly. Holden promised Lily that he'd "take care of" Lucinda. He and his mother-in-law then argued about James -- he told her of James's more recent threat to kill Lily and child. Lucinda asked James about it. Lisa listened as Tom took responsibility for not treating Margo right. Tom hoped that they had another baby.

Katie happened upon Margo, who was looking at a copy of her pregnancy diagnosis. Margo wanted to have another baby, too, but wondered about Tom's reaction. Margo was on her way out the door when Molly showed up. When Adam and Casey arrived home and teased their mom, Molly stopped herself from telling Margo about the affair. Instead, she told Katie that a guy had shown up at the studio, asking for her address. Katie asked Molly never to reveal any information about her.

Lily considered telling Lucinda about David, but Holden nixed the idea. James owned up to threatening Holden's family but then castigated Lucinda for doubting everything. "Trust that you love me," he said. Georgia confided in Kim about overhearing Eddie tell someone that she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. Georgia envisioned a romantic dinner where she and Eddie kissed.

Eddie listened as Emily posed as Tom's secretary again and asked Katie if Margo had gotten the flowers -- and read the note. Eddie jangled Emily's nerves and then swore to himself that he was going to catch her in her tricks. Molly told Emily that she'd chickened out of telling Margo, who was just arriving at the studio.

James proffered his hand for Holden to shake and claimed peace, but Holden wanted to talk to Lucinda -- alone. He insisted to her that she didn't have all the facts, but he refused to elaborate. When she wouldn't back down, he threatened that she wouldn't see Lily or her grandchildren again if she married James. Lucinda surmised that Holden was afraid of James and vowed to find out why. An eavesdropping James vowed to do the same.

Lisa urged her son to talk to Margo about his desire to have a baby. As she was applauding Molly's sudden attack of conscience, Emily saw Margo wandering around the studio. She surreptitiously pushed a button then pushed Molly's buttons, calling her a whore. Both Margo's and a lurking Eddie's ears perked up at the sound of Emily's voice in the studio. Molly shot back about Emily sleeping with her best friend's husband -- Tom Hughes. Margo whirled around.
