February 2002
Over the past month, Soap Opera Central asked its visitors to cast their votes on this year's Dankies ballot - and cast votes they did. This year saw a record voter turnout with total votership up nearly 5 times over last year. Now the balloting is over - and the winners have been announced.

March 2002
In the acting nominations announced on CBS's The Early Show, ABC's All My Children and CBS's As The World Turns again captured the lion's share of nominations. Unlike last year, in which virtually all of the other soaps had to settle for nominations in the technical and creative arts categories, there was some variety.

The 54th Annual Writers Guild Awards honored All My Children in the Outstanding Daytime Serial category. The win marked AMC's second consecutive victory in the category. General Hospital's William Ludle picked up his second Director's Guild of America Award.

Angela Shapiro, President of ABC Daytime, has been tapped to become the president of the ABC Family Channel. Shapiro will remain at ABC Daytime until a successor is found.

SoapNet has now confirmed reports made last month about its plans to launch a new talk show. The all-soaps cable network will debut its second original series, a soap-and lifestyle-themed talk show called SoapTalk, on June 10th.

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) has announced the nominations for this year's ALMA Awards. The ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards, honors outstanding artistic achievement and the enhancement of the Latino image in entertainment.

2002 may very well be remembered as a year when Emmy reform earned more attention than the ballot itself. Seemingly everyone, from the soap press to executive producers to leading soap stars, demanded some sort of change to the way that Emmy ballot is determined.

ABC Daytime has announced that Brian Scott Frons will succeed Angela Shapiro as President of ABC Daytime.

NBC has temporarily canceled its Fan Fest celebration. The event, which was to be held November 2nd and 3rd at Universal Studios in Florida, may or may not be rescheduled.
