Newcomer With Emmy Ties Is GL's New Lizzie

Guiding Light has opted to age the role of Lizzie Spaulding. The move to make the character a sixteen-year-old was done for storyline reasons, but the decision also means that the role will be recast. Mackenzie Mauzy (Lizzie Spaulding) is out and a newcomer will be coming aboard.

Mauzy has been with Guiding Light since November 2000. Mauzy assumed the role after actress Hayden Panettierre left the show to pursue work in feature films and primetime television.

Allison Hirschlag will take over as Lizzie beginning next month. Though her last name might not sound familiar, Hirschlag has strong ties to daytime television - the young actress' mother is multiple Daytime Emmy winner Julia Barr (Brooke English, All My Children).

"I am very proud of our daughter Allison and thrilled she landed the role of Lizzie on Guiding Light," Barr said. "She'll be playing the daughter of my old friend Grant Aleksander and I know several of the actors on the show, so as a mom I feel comfortable that she'll be working with people who are familiar to me!"

Hirschlag will be attending college beginning in January, though it is not yet decided if the young actress will focus her studies on acting.

Hirschlag's first airdate is August 12th.
