Adam returning home after 4-year absence

As the World Turns will be bringing back Adam Hughes later this month. The character, last seen in Oakdale four years ago, will return with a Tony-nominated actor in the role.

With Adam off-screen for several years, many current fans may forget the terms in which the character was written off. Adam Munson left Oakdale in October 2002. The character, then played by Craig Lawlor, headed west to attend USC. Now, four years later, Adam will return as a music producer.

Adam is the son of Margo and Hal. A show spokesperson confirms that Adam's homecoming will help the show finally address the death of Hal's portrayer, Benjamin Hendrickson.

Assuming the role of Adam is Broadway star Matthew J. Morrison. Morrison earned a Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for his work in "The Light in the Piazza."

Though a relative newcomer to television, Morrison has guest-starred on primetime series such as "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Hack" and "Sex and the City."

Morrison first airs on As the World Turns on Tuesday, October 24.
